John C. Dorfman

John C Dorfman Mr. Dorfman, now retired, practiced patent, trademark and copyright law for over fifty years and was involved in all phases of the practice including general counseling, litigation, licensing and other contract work in the patent, trademark and copyright, trade secret and unfair competition fields, and preparation and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications.

Mr. Dorfman was granted a B.E. in electrical engineering at Yale University in 1945. He received his J.D. from Cornell University in 1949.

He has been a member of the Bars of New York (1949), Connecticut (1950) and Pennsylvania (1957). He began his practice in New York in one of the largest patent firms and also served for several years as inside patent counsel for a manufacturing client of that firm with substantial foreign patent activity.

Mr. Dorfman maintained an active participation in professional associations which has kept him involved in legislative activity and areas such as ethics and professional responsibility. He was Secretary, a member of the Board of Governors, and President of the Philadelphia Intellectual Property Law Association. He has been Chairman of many committees of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and has served on its Board of Governors and as Liaison to the National Council of Patent Law Associations. He has been Chairman of the National Council of Patent Law Associations and was first President of the National Inventors Hall of Fame of which he currently remains a Board Member. He has served on the Board operating Inventure Place, Home of the National Inventors Hall of Fame in Akron. He has been particularly active in the Section of Intellectual Property Law of the American Bar Association serving as a member of Council and is a past Chairman of the Section as well as past Chairman of many of its committees. Mr. Dorfman is listed in Who’s Who in American Law and Who’s Who in America.
